π FAITH, HOPE & STRENGTH SUNDAY
π YOU WORKED HARD TO GET HERE. SO WHY DO YOU STILL FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF?
Have you ever walked into a meeting, classroom, interview, or professional gathering and quietly wondered:
“Do I really belong here?”
For many first-generation immigrants, this question can follow us long after we’ve established ourselves in a new country.
Think about everything you’ve accomplished.
π You pursued an education.
π£οΈ You learned to communicate in a different language.
πΌ You worked hard to build a career.
π‘ You established a life for yourself and your family.
π€ You contributed to your workplace and community.
Yet sometimes, despite everything you’ve achieved, you still feel the need to prove yourself.
You work harder.
You prepare longer.
You hesitate to speak because you’re afraid of making a mistake.
You downplay your accomplishments.
And when a new opportunity comes along, you wonder whether you’re really qualified.
Why is it sometimes so difficult to recognize the value we already bring?
π Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
β€οΈ Your worth was established by God long before anyone evaluated your qualifications.
π WHEN BEING GOOD NEVER FEELS GOOD ENOUGH
Our immigrant experiences often teach us to be resourceful, hardworking, disciplined, and exceptionally prepared.
These are valuable strengths.
But sometimes, those same habits create an exhausting cycle of self-doubt.
πΉ 1. YOU OVERPREPARE.
You feel you must know everything before speaking because you’re afraid of being wrong.
πΉ 2. YOU DOWNPLAY YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
When someone recognizes your work, you respond, “I was just lucky,” instead of acknowledging your effort and abilities.
πΉ 3. YOU HESITATE TO PURSUE OPPORTUNITIES.
You meet most of the qualifications for a position but focus on the few you don’t have.
πΉ 4. YOU FEAR BEING EXPOSED.
Even after accomplishing something meaningful, you worry that others may discover you’re not as capable as they think.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Sometimes we become so accustomed to proving ourselves that we forget to appreciate how far we’ve come.
π 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Humility doesn’t require you to deny the gifts God has given you.
π± FOUR WAYS TO STOP CONSTANTLY PROVING YOURSELF
β€οΈ 1. RECOGNIZE WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY GIVEN YOU.
Your experiences, education, resilience, cultural background, and perspective have value.
Your journey may look different from someone else’s, but that doesn’t make your contributions less meaningful.
π 1 Peter 4:10 β Use the gifts you’ve received to serve others.
π± 2. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO KEEP LEARNING.
You don’t need to know everything before taking the next step.
Ask questions. Seek guidance. Develop new skills.
Growth isn’t evidence that you’re inadequate. It’s evidence that you’re moving forward.
π Proverbs 1:5 β A wise person continues to learn.
πͺ 3. ACCEPT OPPORTUNITIES WITHOUT APOLOGIZING.
If you’re qualified, prepared, and willing to contribute, don’t automatically assume someone else deserves the opportunity more.
You can be humble and confident at the same time.
π Colossians 3:23 β Whatever you do, work wholeheartedly as unto the Lord.
π 4. FIND YOUR IDENTITY IN SOMETHING GREATER THAN ACHIEVEMENT.
Careers change.
Titles change.
Financial circumstances change.
People’s opinions change.
But your identity in Christ isn’t dependent on any of them.
π Galatians 2:20 β Christ lives in me.
You don’t have to spend your entire life auditioning for acceptance.
Use your gifts. Keep learning. Serve others. Walk in your purpose.
β¨ STOP ASKING, “AM I GOOD ENOUGH TO BE HERE?”
Instead, start asking:
“HOW CAN I USE WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN ME TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?”
Your unique perspective can build bridges.
Your knowledge can solve problems.
Your experiences can help and encourage others.
Your story can inspire the next generation.
You don’t have to be the most accomplished person in the room to make a meaningful contribution.
π Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
You were not created merely to prove your worth. You were created to live with purpose.
π SUNDAY PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating each of us with unique gifts, abilities, experiences, and purpose.
Forgive us for the times we’ve allowed fear, insecurity, or the opinions of others to determine how we see ourselves.
Help us recognize the value of what You’ve placed within us.
Give us confidence without arrogance, humility without self-doubt, and courage to pursue the opportunities before us.
When we feel like outsiders, remind us that our identity and worth are secure in You.
Teach us to stop constantly trying to prove ourselves and start faithfully using our gifts to serve others.
May our lives reflect Your love, wisdom, and purpose.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. π
