Faith, Hope, & Strength Sunday
π WHAT IF YOUR CHILDREN NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT IT COST YOU TO GET HERE?

π FAITH, HOPE & STRENGTH SUNDAY
π WHAT IF YOUR CHILDREN NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT IT COST YOU TO GET HERE?
They see the life you built. But do they know the journey that brought you here?
For many first-generation immigrants, the life our children experience today is very different from the life we knew growing up.
They may never have experienced:
π Leaving everything familiar behind.
π Saying goodbye to loved ones without knowing when they’d see them again.
π£οΈ Struggling to communicate in a new language.
πΌ Working jobs beneath their qualifications just to provide for their families.
π Praying for opportunities when the future seemed uncertain.
π‘ Starting over with limited resources and little support.
Our children see the opportunities. But they may not know the sacrifices that made those opportunities possible.
And that raises an important question:
If we never share our stories, how will the next generation understand where they came from?
π Psalm 78:4 (NKJV)
“We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.”
β€οΈ Our stories are more than memories. They’re opportunities to pass down faith, wisdom, and hope.
π± YOUR GREATEST LEGACY MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND
Many immigrant parents work tirelessly to provide their children with opportunities they never had.
π A good education.
π‘ A safe and comfortable home.
π° Financial stability.
πΌ Better career opportunities.
These are wonderful blessings.
But some of our greatest gifts cannot be measured in dollars.
β€οΈ 1. FAITH β The prayers that sustained us when the future was uncertain.
πͺ 2. RESILIENCE β The courage to begin again when life didn’t go as planned.
π€ 3. COMPASSION β The understanding that everyone faces struggles we may not see.
π 4. HERITAGE β The language, traditions, stories, and values that connect generations.
π Proverbs 13:22 (NKJV)
“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children…”
A lasting legacy includes more than financial resources. It includes the faith, character, and wisdom we pass on.
π DON’T LET YOUR STORY END WITH YOU
You don’t have to write a book or become famous to leave a meaningful legacy.
Start with four simple actions:
π£οΈ 1. TELL THE STORIES BEHIND YOUR SACRIFICES.
Share what life was like before you immigrated.
Talk about your first job, your biggest challenges, and the people who helped you.
Don’t just tell your children life was difficult. Share what those experiences taught you.
π 2. SHARE THE FAITH THAT SUSTAINED YOU.
Tell your family about answered prayers, unexpected opportunities, and moments when you experienced God’s faithfulness.
Your testimony may encourage someone facing a challenge you never imagined.
π 3. PRESERVE YOUR CULTURE AND FAMILY HISTORY.
Teach family traditions.
Prepare meaningful recipes together.
Share photographs and stories about relatives.
Help younger generations appreciate their language, heritage, and roots.
β€οΈ 4. PASS DOWN WISDOM, NOT GUILT.
Our children shouldn’t feel obligated to repay our sacrifices or repeat our struggles.
Instead, let’s encourage them to use their opportunities responsibly and pursue their own God-given purpose.
The goal isn’t to make them relive our hardships. It’s to help them benefit from the wisdom those hardships produced.
π Deuteronomy 6:6β7 (NKJV)
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…”
π SUNDAY PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for guiding our families through unfamiliar places, difficult decisions, and uncertain beginnings.
Thank You for the sacrifices, opportunities, and lessons that have shaped our journeys.
Help us remember Your faithfulness and share our stories with wisdom, gratitude, and humility.
Teach us to pass down faith without fear, resilience without resentment, and wisdom without guilt.
May our children and grandchildren know not only what we accomplished, but also the love, courage, and faith that helped us persevere.
Let our legacy inspire them to honor their heritage, embrace their opportunities, and serve others with compassion.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. π
π¬ SUNDAY REFLECTION β LET’S SHARE OUR LEGACY!
WHAT IS ONE LESSON FROM YOUR IMMIGRANT JOURNEY YOU WANT THE NEXT GENERATION TO REMEMBER?

π― THIS WEEK’S FGIN LEGACY CHALLENGE
Have a meaningful conversation with a family member.
Ask or answer these three questions:
1οΈβ£ What was the hardest part of beginning life in a new country?
2οΈβ£ Who helped our family when we needed it most?
3οΈβ£ What is one lesson you hope future generations will remember?
Consider recording the conversation or writing down the answersβwith everyone’s permission.
